She gathered most of the information upon which the paper is based from library sources for an oral paper (Fanning et al., 1993) on Milton Whitney at the Soil Science Society of America meetings in Cincinnati, OH in 1993. She utilized her expertise in genealogical and library research to gather much information, still in the possession of the senior author, beyond that used in the preparation of this paper.
