Abstract

Red Crescent is the most important support association founded during the last period of the Ottoman Empire. The association continued to support the army its scanty means and facilities during the War of Independence after the World War I with. The association working for the care of the wounded soldiers in the front –lines, was reorganized during the War of Independence and continued its activities with the support of the public. Bolu Red Crescent Association underwent a new formation during the War of Independence period in December, 31, 1920 and started its activities. Organizations were set up in districts such as Gerede, Mudurnu and Duzce and new branches were opened. Branches for females and males continued their activities separately and Bolu Red Crescent Association Women’s Branch became prominent with their aid campaigns. By organizing religious meetings, shows and concerts, Bolu Red Crescent Association both created awareness in the community and provided a generous support for the War of Independence through the donations they collected. The study aims to investigate the activities of Bolu Red Crescent Association supported by the public to save the country and their importance in Bolu, a city that is mostly remembered with the uprising against the foundation of The Grand National Assembly. The period’s reflections in press are also examined.
