Naval Engineers JournalVolume 75, Issue 2 p. 365-374 MILITARY SIGNIFICANCE OF DEEP DIVING VEHICLES COMMANDER LAURENCE L. JACKSON JR. USN, COMMANDER LAURENCE L. JACKSON JR. USN The author was commissioned in the U. S. Navy 6 June 1945, upon being graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. He served in various submarines until June 1951, when he was ordered to V. S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. From there in 1954, having been awarded a Master of Science Degree, Naval Engineering (Electrical), he reported for duty on a submarine, then on a submarine squadron staff. In 1957 he began a three-year tour at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. It was during this tour that he was selected to be an Engineering Duty Officer. From 1960 to 1962 Commander Jackson served at David Taylor Model Basin, specializing in submarine RDT and E programs. During this tour he was awarded the Secretary of the Navy Commendation for Special Achievement. At present Commander Jackson is in the Ship Design Division of the Bureau of Ships, serving as Submarine Program Officer for Hull Design. Commander Jackson is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers. He has previously published an article in the Journal of the Society of Naval Engineers (the predecessor of the Naval Engineers Journal) entitled “Submarine FRAM Program, What and Why” May 1960.Search for more papers by this author COMMANDER LAURENCE L.
