Abstract
This chapter explains military reconnaissance. During wartime, military reconnaissance is primarily concerned with the collection of information for the use of the military forces about an enemy through uniformed members of the armed forces who operate in and behind enemy lines. The concept of military reconnaissance has come today also to include the collection of information about a target state during peacetime for the use of the military forces of another state by means of the surveying of the target State's territory. This information can be collected by agents or instrumentalities of the surveying state located within the target state's territory or its airspace, in space adjacent to the target and in outer space.
