Abstract
The paper comments on I.Milet VI, 3 nr. 1039, a Milesian honorary decree for Eirenias son of Eirenias the Elder, a Milesian citizen who lived between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC and had diplomatic relations with the Attalid and Seleucid courts. In particular, the decree attests to his involvement in Eumenes II’s donations to Miletus for the construction of a gymnasium and in Antiochus IV’s grant of the ateleia to the city. In addition to the analysis of this document, the paper focuses on the rich dossier of inscriptions relating to Eirenias and illustrating other milestones in his political career, starting from his involvement as synedros in the treaty with Heraclea at Latmus, to his decisive role in meeting Eumenes II and attributing him divine honours.
