Abstract
À la fin du xixe siècle, plusieurs organisations juives, fondées en Europe occidentale pour promouvoir l’émancipation juive dans l’espace méditerranéen et en Europe orientale, se coordonnent pour venir à l’aide des réfugiés et migrants quittant l’Europe de l’Est pour l’Amérique. Apportant secours, renseignements et aide matérielle pour la traversée transcontinentale, elles créent par ailleurs des infrastructures d’éducation et de formation en amont et en aval du mouvement. Cette œuvre, peu abordée par l’historiographie, vise en même temps à rassurer les inquiétudes nées de l’apparition de mouvements antisémites dans le monde occidental.
