Abstract

Migration gives birth to societies in which families stay across the borders, resulting in the growth of transnational families and societies in the place of origin. Remittances play a positive role in combatting poverty, overcoming economic hardship, and improving the social well-being of migrant families. Though the significant share of the remittances is used for family's daily consumption, it is also used to uplift their social status in the neighbourhood. The present study focused on remittances for family consumption, their show of wealth, and lastly, entrepreneurship among village people. The results revealed that remittances were consumed for personal growth. However, a lack of policy provided aid to better utilization of remittances either for family welfare or entrepreneurial activities on a large scale. There is a lacuna related to women's participation in the utilization of remittances, while Government can provide training to make their self-help groups and small business activities that provide them better utilization of remittances.
