Abstract
Mień is the village located in the municipality of Brańsk, district of Bielsk Pod-laski, Podlaskie Voivodeship. Its documented roots dated back to the 15th cen-tury, when the area was given to Piotr called Pachoł. However, the traces of settlement discovered nearby date back to the early Middle Ages. Asmall town (an estate and avillage) located on the border was the arena of skirmishes and battles that left some traces in the history of the entire country. An important element determining the fate of Mień was also the geographical location – in the vicinity of relatively extensive forested areas and upon the marshy Mianka River. The aim of the presented text is to indicate the events that took place in the neighbourhood of the village as components of great history.
