Abstract

Midwifery as a profession and a vocation has historically been passed from generation to generation through narratives, practice and storytelling: wise women passing their skills down to the next generation, again and again.1 In this article, midwife Pia invites student midwives to take a moment for themselves while she tells the story of her 40th birth as a student midwife. Through this story, she explains how continuity of carer (CoC) and an experience of spontaneous labour was crucial for developing the direction of her career. *Names and details of the story shared with parents’ permission.
