Abstract

Experimental results of extraordinary optical transmission through periodically perforated metal films in the middle-infrared region are reported. The position of the transmission pass bands depends slightly on the aperture size but mainly on the periodicity. The transmission enhancement, due to the involvement of surface plasmon polaritons, can be improved by forming a symmetrical structure.
