Abstract

Background: It has been suggested that residual/recurrent mitral regurgitation (MR) following mitral valve repair is more frequent in bileaflet mitral prolapse than that in single leaflet prolapse [1]. Importantly, optimal or reproducible procedure to repair bileaflet prolapse associated with myxomatous degeneration has not been established, though a variety of surgical techniques have been reported. This study aimed to review mid-term surgical outcomes of patients having bileaflet mitral prolapse, operated by a single surgeon, who has consistently performed replacement of multiple chordae using “loop-technique” [2] to avoid excision/resection of the leaflets.
