Abstract

Microwave spectra of 3-iodothiophene have been measured in the frequency region of 10–24 GHz. Only a-type R-branch transitions were assigned. Three hundred seventy-five quadrupole hyperfine component spectra were measured for the 69 transitions. The rotatinal constants of the ground state were determined to be A = 7110.2 ± 1.0, B = 697.7380 ± 0.0016, and C = 635.1307 ± 0.0015 MHz. From the quadrupole hyperfine splittings of the iodine nucleus, the nuclear quadrupole coupling constants in the principal axes system were determined to be χ aa = − 1981.8 ± 4.5, χ bb = 983.5 ± 4.7, χ cc = 998.3 ± 6.5, and | χ ab |; = 195.1 ± 4.7 MHz.
