Abstract

Microwave spectra of 2-iodothiophene have been measured in the frequency region of 12–26 GHz. Only a-type R-branch transitions were assigned. The rotational constants of the ground state were determined to be A = 5391.73 ± 0.30 MHz, B = 839.8096 ± 0.0018 MHz, and C = 727.1967 ± 0.0017 MHz. From the quadrupole hyperfine splittings of the I nucleus, the nuclear quadrupole coupling constants in the principal axes system were determined to be χ aa = −2025.2 ± 4.6 MHz, χ bb = 989.9 ± 2.8 MHz, χ cc = 1035.3 ± 5.3 MHz, and | χ ab | = 318.5 ± 1.8 MHz.
