Abstract

Nature friendly and environmentally safe BaZr0.2Ti0.8O3 is synthesized by double sintering technique using microwave furnace. X-ray diffraction and SEM revealed cubic structure and spherical agglomerated grains respectively. A large dielectric constant of 12500 at 1 MHz and a phase transition at 31 °C is noticed. Optical characterization using UV-Vis spectrometer affirmed 3.16 eV band gap and a transparent window between infrared and far-infrared region, which can be tapped for optoelectronic applications. Performance of refractive index, extinction coefficient and optical conductivity behavior at optical frequencies are in accordance with dielectric behavior.
