Abstract

We investigated the possibility of using a weak link Josephson junction as a microwave detector. Step edge Josephson junctions (SEJJ) and bicrystal Josephson junctions (BCJJ) are weak link type junctions. We fabricated the junctions using EuBa2Cu3Ox (EBCO) oxide superconducting thin films on MgO substrates. We measured their microwave broadband detection (video detection) characteristics. The detected voltages of the junctions depended on bias current and the maximum voltage was observed at a slightly smaller bias current than that at which the first Shapiro step appeared. The lcRN was about 0.1 mV. The responsivity of the SEJJ and BCJJ were estimated at 1.37 [V/W] and 0.056 [V/W], respectively.
