Abstract

An efficient, economical and eco-friendly microwave assisted protocol for protection of phenolic hydroxyl group is reported. The protocol enables preparation of diphenyl ethers by treatment of various phenols with 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene in absence of any auxiliary substance such as phase transfer catalyst. This microwave assisted Williamson reaction is more practical and greener way for preparing diphenyl ethers which are useful as agrochemicals.
