Abstract

In the present article, the hybrid ultrasonic-electromagnetic (UEM) physics field is introduced into the laser additive manufacturing Inconel 718. The effect of the hybrid UEM field on microstructure evolution is investigated. Obtained results show that when the hybrid UEM is applied, porosity reduces significantly, the columnar dendrites epitaxial growth behavior along the deposition direction depresses and the columnar transition to equiaxed grains improves. Moreover, the average microhardness of the coating increases from 244 HV0.2 to 271 HV0.2.
