Abstract

Abstract In-situ fabrication of aluminum matrix composites (AMCs) has gathered widespread attention of researchers due to inherent advantages over ex-situ methods. Aluminum alloy AA6061 reinforced with various amounts (0, 2.5, and 5 wt. %) of Al2O3 and TiB2 particles were fabricated by the in melt chemical reaction of boric oxide powder (B2O3) and Titanium powder to molten aluminum. X-ray diffraction patterns of the in-situ fabricated AMCs clearly revealed the formation of Al2O3 and TiB2 particles. The microstructures of the in-situ fabricated AMC were studied using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
