Abstract
Amorphous Si-B-C-N-Al powders have been prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) technique using crystalline silicon (c-Si), hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), graphite (C) and aluminum (Al) powders as starting materials. Microstructural characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The results showed that Si-B-C-N-Al powders synthesized by mechanical alloying were amorphous, no nanocrystalline structure had been detected, and every element in the Si-B-C-N-Al powders was uniformly distributed. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) shows that the Si-B-C-N-Al powders possessed hybridization structure of several bonds, such as Si–C, B–C–N, C–C, B–N and Al–N.
