Abstract
The effect of the low energy high current pulsed electron beam (LEHCPEB) surface treatment on the microstructure and properties of a near α Ti alloy have been investigated. Both the melted layer and solid state transformation layer of the LEHCPEB treated samples contained α’ martensite. The size of the former β grains suggests a cooling rate of about 107Ks−1. Selective Al evaporation occurred at the top surface of the melted layer and affected both surface hardness and corrosion properties.
