Abstract

CrCN/TiSiCN nano-multilayer coatings with different C/N composition ratios were prepared on Zircaloy by hybrid multi-arc ion plating and magnetron sputtering technique, and the microstructures and oxidation behaviors of the coatings in 1000 °C steam were investigated. At the C/N ratio of 1.0, the coating structure changed from a quasi-bicrystalline layer periodic arrangement to a crystalline/amorphous layer arrangement. Increasing C/N ratio inhibited the generation and mobility of N2 bubbles in the coatings during oxidation, avoiding crack generation and coating flaking. The coating with C/N of 1.0 exhibited optimal high-temperature oxidation resistance. Moreover, the oxidation mechanisms of CrCN/TiSiCN nano-multilayer coatings were discussed.
