Abstract

Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) is known to be an Additive Manufacturing (AM) technique which produces parts by depositing materials layer by layer. Its quality is reliant on the process parameters, which need to be optimised to attain improved mechanical properties. This article reviewed the mechanical properties (microstructure and tensile strength) of LMD Ti6Al4V alloy published by different authors and relates these mechanical properties with the effects of some of the processing parameters required for additive manufacturing of titanium alloys. Furthermore, the article summaries important findings and proffer suggestions for future research in the area of machine part repair using LMD technique.
