Abstract
Starting with a separable coupling between the intrinsic coordinates of a nuclear system and several collective variables, damping and diffusion of the collective system is studied by first-order zero-temperature time-dependent perturbation theory. Attention is focused on the relative coordinates between heavy ions and closed expressions are obtained for the mean values and the fluctuations of the coordinates, momenta and angular momentum components, and the asymptotic behaviour is analyzed. Application to the quasi-elastic region of heavy-ion reactions is indicated.
