Abstract

Shoot tips of Yucca aloifolia L. from in vitro grown plants were excised and cultured on half strength Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 3 sucrose and 0.2 gelrite. For multiplication the media were supplemented with factorial combinations of 4.4, 8.9 or 17.8 μM BA plus 1.1 or 2.7 μM NAA; or 1.1, 2.3 or 4.5 μM TDZ plus 0.5 or 1.1 μM NAA. The highest number (6.6) of proliferated shoots was obtained with 4.5 μM TDZ plus 1.1 μM NAA. The proliferated shoots readily rooted in vitro on 1/2 or 1/4 strength MS medium with and without 2.5 or 4.9 μM IBA and 1 charcoal. The rooted plantlets were successfully acclimatized in soil.
