Abstract

AbstractSimulated rainfall of severe tropical storm Bilis (2006) is classified into eight types based on precipitation intensity. Cloud microphysical budget analysis shows that Pracw (accretion of cloud water by rain) and Pgmlt (melting of graupel) are the two main sources of raindrops. Unlike Pracw, whose magnitude monotonously increases with increasing precipitation intensity, Pgmlt increases at first and then decreases. This indicates that Pgmlt plays a more important role in weaker precipitation than in stronger precipitation, although Pracw and Pgmlt are always the main sources of raindrops.
