Abstract

Abstract The liver is the main gateway to the passage of nutrients from the gut to systemic sites. The organ is affected by the deficiencies of many vitamins and trace elements and excess amounts of vitamin A, iron, copper and zinc. Recent work has documented the beneficial role of probiotic organisms for many parts of the body including the liver. This knowledge is finding clinical and public health significance in the prevention and management of many human diseases.
