Abstract
Closed form constitutive relations are given for the prediction of the response of fibrous composites in which the failure of the fiber/matrix interface is modelled by the Coulomb frictional law. The interfacial failure criterion includes the coefficients of cohesion and friction both of which can be determined from measurements. The effect of decohesion on the composite response, initial yield surfaces and strength envelopes is shown for SCS 8/T i-15-3 silicon carbid/titanium metal matrix composite.
