Abstract
The microhardness of TiN-TiNi composite produced by ion-plasma deposition of titanium-nitride film on the surface of TiNi alloy is investigated. The microhardness of thin surface layers may be analytically determined on the basis of a recuperated indenter impression. The proposed conditions for the deposition of a protective TiN coating on the surface of TiNi alloy produce a barrier layer whose hardness is close to that of the base. This product meets the requirements for the medical use of titanium-nickelide components.
