Abstract

Microdochium Syd., type species M. phragmitis Syd., is redescribed and emended (a) for species with holoblastic conidiogenous cells and synchronously or sympodially produced conidia, and (b) to incorporate species, the conidia of which are prolonged at each end into appendages. Microdochium linariae T. Săvulescu is reduced to synonymy with Centrospora acerina (Hartig) Newhall. Microdochium caespitosum sp. nov. and M. griseum sp. nov. on dead leaves from Tanzania, and M. phyllanthi sp. nov. associated with leaf lesions on Phyllanthus discoideus from Sierra Leone are added to the genus. Comparisons with Idriella Nelson & Wilhelm and Arxiella Papendorf are made.
