Abstract
Abstract Microclimate modifications consist mainly of modifying the energy balance of single plants and plant canopies. Several modification practices exist, such as shading, mulching, modifying ventilation, wetting or drying, heating or cooling, etc. Most of these practices can be viewed in simple ways according to simple physical properties and mechanisms modified. I will give my view of the basic principles in simplest form. Real situations are much too complicated to be dealt with in any detail by my review, which will consider only the simplest basics; however, simple principles do provide a good qualitative insight to many modification practices.
