Abstract

Ti6Al4V/nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) composites were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS). The micro-structure of composite was observed and analysed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The mechanical properties of composites, such as density, micro-hardness, corrosion resistance, compressive strength, were tested and analysed. The results show that, Ti6Al4V and nHA have good associativity in the process of sintering, forming micellar structure. Sintered composite has high density and hardness, good corrosion resistance. The elastic modulus of composite was close to human cortical bone.
