Abstract
Grid-induced turbulent flows of liquid sodium in a toroidal channel at high Reynolds numbers and moderate magnetic Reynolds numbers are studied experimentally. Grids with a pitch of 15 mm and 31 mm were used, and one or two grids were installed in the channel. It is shown that the dynamics of the pulsed turbulent flow in the channel with grids differs significantly from that observed in a free channel, where the turbulence develops on the scale of the channel cross-section. Measurements of the characteristics of velocity and magnetic field pulsations have shown that induction effects in the unsteady pulse flow have time to manifest themselves in full. The spectra of velocity and magnetic field pulsations are obtained.
