Abstract

This chapter provides a historical background of Mexico's prairies followed by a list of prairies in alphabetical order. Each site is briefly described, followed by symbols showing site features, a brief location, and a phone number. According to The Nature Conservancy, the 55-million-acre Sonoran Desert stretches across Mexico and the United States, including the Mexican states of Sonora and Northern Baja California and parts of the US states of southern Arizona, southeastern California and parts of New Mexico. The Great Plains include northeast Mexico, but little of its shortgrass prairie or desert grassland has been preserved.
