Abstract

SUMMARY(2‐14C)‐MVA (mevalonic acid) is metabolized to two major products by sonicated preparations of purified intact etioplasts isolated from wheat leaves. These metabolites have been identified by their RF values and from the products of their hydrolysis as MVAP and MVAPP (mevalonate‐5‐phosphate and mevalonate‐5‐pyrophosphate, respectively). Intact preparations of etioplasts are essentially impermeable to (2‐14C)‐MVA, even after a red light irradiation.
