Abstract

This paper aims to explore the extraordinary antiwear and Extreme pressure properties of carbon based nanofluid. The Multi walled carbon nanotube was mixed with the 20 W40 mineral oil base oil with concentrations such as 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.15%, and 0.2%wt. The four ball tribometer was used to find the extreme pressure and wear properties. The result showed that pass load is found to be 126 kgf for nano fluid whereas 100kgf for base oil and weld load is 160 for nano fluid whereas 126 kgf for base oil. It also been detected that the load bearing capacity of multiwalled carbon nanotube based mineral oil increases by 15% as with that of 20 W40 mineral oil. The result of this research would be supportive in formulating novel nanofluid which would intensifies the span of the contacting parts, the failure of machine can be minimized which in turn productivity of the machine can be maximized.
