Abstract
Abstract The temporal sequence of the methylation and synthesis of tRNA during the cell cycle has been measured. The rate of synthesis of tRNA remains constant throughout the cell cycle but the rate of methylation of tRNA varies five-fold. There is no “turnover” of either methyl groups or tRNA. The differential activities probably give rise to a changing methyl content of the tRNA “pool”. This change is positively correlated with the rate of protein synthesis in the cell cycle.
