Abstract

The article highlights the specifics of methods for research the media formation of architecture as its informative essence. The existing methodological base allows us to consider architectural media formation as a reflection of spiritual values ​​and philosophical thoughts of our society, but there are no clear recommendations to choice correct methods of its research. To identify possible features of media formation and optimize the choice of methods for its evaluation, the object of research is divided into three hierarchical levels - urban space, architectural object and separate elements of decoration.
 The set of knowledge about architectural media formation contributes to the accumulation of methods of its research, which creates the need for their understanding and structuring. The existing methods of research of media formation of architecture and urban spaces with their further classification are represented. This systematization makes it possible to find new facts about the media formation of architecture and to establish links between them, regardless of the degree of research on this topic.
 Peculiarities of application of methods at different hierarchical levels of research of media formation of architecture are determined. A combination of traditional and modern methods makes a possibility of conducting a broader analysis of the media formation of architecture and spaces of the city. Particular attention is paid to the involvement of methods from other scientific fields, which contributes to new results.
 Promising methods of media formation assessment have been identified and their role in modern architectural theory have been established. Systematization of methods of research of media architecture is also intended for application in the practical activities of the architects.
