Abstract

This paper presents a comparative study on two different control algorithms used for controlling BLDC (Brushless Direct Current) motors with Hall sensors. This paper illustrates the advantages and disadvantages of using different commutation schemes in a control system for BLDC motors. The comparison between the commutation schemes will be illustrated by means of a simulation in the Matlab Simulink environment. Also a comparison between a sensor-based control system and an encoder-based system will be presented. Simulation results are used to validate the performances of the presented topologies and algorithms.
