Abstract
The cylinder balancing is one of the most important methods tied to ride quality. It guarantees a symmetrical combustion on all cylinders. In this paper, an approach is presented to correct the injector characteristics adaptively instead of expensive and delicate measurements. The injection start is determined by the pressure descent in the injection line using the magneto elastic effect. The crankshaft speed at the top dead centre are exploited to estimate a relative injection mass in each cylinder. With these parameters the cylinder balancing is realized using a global adaptation algorithm. The approach is applied to a four cylinder diesel engine to demonstrate its performance.
