Abstract
Formulas are given for the zeroth and first angular variable moments of the thermal neutron scattering kernel for a monatomic gas model as well as for a model which includes molecular and crystal binding. A method is presented for calculating the space-energy distribution of thermal neutrons which accounts for thermalization in multizone cylindrical lattice cells by means of the Ps approximation of the spherical harmonic method. Experimental results are compared with results of the calculations.
