Abstract
The asparagus aphid, Brachycorynella asparagi Mordvilko, is a threat to commercial asparagus, Asparagus officinalis, L, production in Washington and other commercial asparagus production areas. The suppression of the asparagus aphids can be accomplished by the control of wild asparagus plants within commercial asparagus fields and in surrounding areas. Controlling wild asparagus plants within asparagus fields requires proper cultural practices. The practices comprise < 10% of the total production costs. Measures to control wild asparagus in areas outside commercial asparagus fields include herbicide application, burning, and removal of the asparagus crowns. The costs of such controls depend heavily upon the wild asparagus plant densities.
