Abstract
The development of new methods for testing substances and materials is a relevant area that allows to assess the fire hazard of substances, including modern materials, the composition of which is constantly improving and changing. There are and are created special conditions in the premises, under which combustion acquires a completely different character. An example of such conditions can be combustion in a closed volume, when there is no oxygen access and no energy exchange with the environment. We present a technique that allows us to study the combustion of solids and liquids in a closed volume and to control the parameters of the gas medium. The purpose of the technique is to study the kinetics of combustion of solids and liquids in a closed volume by controlling the parameters and investigating their influence on each other (temperature of the gas medium, reduction of light transmission of combustion products, total oxygen concentration, mass loss of samples). A description of the three stages and the order of their realization is given. The laboratory bench developed by the author is briefly described. The results of the research are supposed to be used to expand the understanding of the nature and kinetics of combustion of substances and materials in a closed volume, as well as to assess the fire hazard of substances whose combustion can occur in a closed volume.
