Abstract

The presented article is devoted to the history of the unique state institution "Book Chamber of Ukraine named after Ivan Fedorov". The author considered the peculiarities of this scientific institution, in particular, analyzed the work of its methodological meetings (groups) during 1946—1964. The study was conducted on the materials of the internal departmental archive of the Book Chamber of Ukraine, namely, the first description of its documentary fund. The author has worked on archival files, which contain the minutes of meetings of methodological meetings of the institution. Since the latter have remained underused to this day (the list of inquiries in the cases involved, in fact, is empty), their content is apparently introduced into the scientific community for the first time, and therefore is a scientific novelty. In turn, the content of these archival materials contains relevant and in demand in the context of the modern work of the Book Chamber information on the full range of work carried out by the institution for the processing of printed products. The article reflects the specifics of the historical period and shows its impact on the organization of methodological activities of the Book Chamber of Ukraine. In general, on the basis of archival sources the personal structure of methodical meetings (groups), names of their chairmen, secretaries, participants of meetings is established; the dominant content of the agenda of the meetings was analyzed; The directions of development of the national bibliography in 1946—1964 are defined. In general, the conducted research allows to assert confidently that bases of modern approaches in realization of all obligatory bibliographic stages in processing of printed production, such as segmentation, classification, registration, systematization, cataloging etc., were laid in the first postwar twentieth century.
