Abstract
A procedure was developed for directly determining acetylsalicylic acid in human blood specimens. The method instantly stops enzymatic hydrolysis, removes salicylic acid and conjugates of salicylic acid by reaction with ceric ammonium nitrate, automatically hydrolyzes acetylsalicylic acid, and determines the resulting salicylic acid fluorometrically. It sensitively measures acetylsalicylic acid in the presence of salicylic acid, salicylamide, salicyluric acid and salicylic acid ether glucuronide (O-carboxyphenyl glucuronide).
