Physical Data: colorless liquid, bp 70 °C at 25 mm Hg; its hydrochloride salt, mp 191 °C. Solubility: sol ether, alcohol, dichloromethane, and most organic solvents; hydrochloride salt sol in H2O, alcohol, DMF, DMSO. Analysis of Reagent Purity: 1H, 13C, 29Si NMR, elemental analysis, EIMS. Preparative Methods: prepared by lithium metal mediated reductive silylation of trimethylsilyl cyanide.2 Purification: by fractional distillation at 25 mm Hg through a 120 mm Vigreux column. Handling, Storage, and Precautions: best stored under nitrogen or argon in the refrigerator.
