Abstract

New redoxactive materials were obtained by the radical copolymerization of the methacrylate monomer containing azoanthraquinone ( 1) with benzylmethacrylate ( 2) or phenylmethacrylate ( 3). Furthermore, the polymer-analogous esterification of polymethacrylic acid with seven various alkylhalides ( 4–10) in the presence of CsF was studied and used for the synthesis of the copolymer p7co10 with benzyl and azoanthraquinone side groups. A new synthetical route to copolymethyhnethacrylates was developed: the radical copolymerization of methylmethacrylate ( 11) and methacrylic acid ( 12) yielded p11co12, which could be esterificated with the azoanthraquinone bromide ( 10) forming the copolymer p11co10 containing methyl and azoanthraquinone side groups.
