Abstract

This paper presents the design of a smart metering management center proposed for Colombia and the formulation of short-term action lines to implement programs related to smart metering and Smart Grids infrastructures in the country. The proposed architecture is designed under four layers (Process–Electric Distribution System, Smart Metering, Metering Management Center and stakeholders of the sector involved). Seeking to integrate the agents of the electricity sector with the information coming from the smart devices of energy metering, allowing to discriminate the functionalities that belong to each layer. On the other hand, the action lines to implement strategic programs make up methodologies that allow drawing a road-map for its development. Both topics proposed in this article correspond to agree conclusions, by several stakeholders of the electric sector in Colombia. Obtained through the realization of workshops within the framework of joint projects between the academy and the “Unidad de Planeacion Minero Energetica”, UPME.
