Abstract
We study sensors based on metamaterial cladded waveguides for monitoring gas or liquid specimens. These multilayer structures are made of metal and dielectric thin film claddings, surrounding a hollow core. Mechanical strength, electromagnetic interference immunity, compact layout and connection reliability, make them appropriate to indoor or open air sensing system applications. Sensitivity to sample dielectric constant optical response is numerically calculated and analyzed in different metamaterial sensor designs.
