Abstract

Stopping light using metamaterial optical waveguide is one of recent research outlines to realize optical memory. Complete stopping is impossible because of nonzero optical loss in metamaterial waveguides. The group velocity will be much higher than zero in real metamaterial waveguides having considerable optical loss. There are a huge try to compensate observed optical loss in metamaterial using active waveguides. In this paper, we study the possibility of more reduction of group velocity in real metamaterial waveguides using multilayer structure with dielectric and single negative (SNG) layers as cladding. Our obtained results show that more group velocity reduction is possible without using active waveguide and optical amplifier.
