Abstract

A 2D valley-Hall photonic topological insulator (PTI) based on the sphere-thorn shaped metamaterial structure is proposed in the red band. The structure unit of the PTI is a composite structure that is composed of metal and dielectric. Simulation shows that there is a topologically protected edge wave (TPEW) at the interface between two such PTIs. The robust transmission of the TPEW is demonstrated in the red band using the waveguide composed of these two PTIs. This valley-Hall PTI provides a method for efficient and free manipulation of visible light, and can be applied to optical communication, integrated photonic devices, and other fields.
